This Saturday—for those you reading this later— January 31, 2026, I shut the door to The Write Space on Freeman St. for the last time.
It was a decision I did not make lightly. There were tears and not just from me. I’m still waiting for a sense of relief to wash over me. I still don’t believe it’s over.
Over six years ago, I took over the space from my husband, Lee, where he had his photography studio and we ran an art gallery together called “The Rectangle.” Who knew, at the time, there would be a pandemic then an electrical substation to contend with as soon as it became The Write Space. Life is full of surprises that never stop.
But there were also wonderful times with Happy Hours, monthly Submission Sundays, readings, classes, events. And most importantly creative writing got done at TWS every week. The co-writing and the community was the foundation. And I will miss both of those things. Deeply.
A take solace in knowing all good things must come to an end. We don’t need The Write Space to write, and now that we’ve met, we can gather anywhere. I have online ideas, but for the moment, The Write Space will be taking a pause. Probably not for long.
My profound thanks to this beautiful community— everyone who supported the space as a member, friend, and donor. The Write Space couldn’t have existed without you. I just couldn’t have done it.

I look forward to seeing you and what’s to come.
As always, keep writing. Especially now.
In gratitude,
Marcia
